ABOUT PURIST
Performance Purist is a strength and conditioning gym founded on the belief that effective training is built on clarity, structure, and long-term development. Our approach prioritises sound movement, appropriate loading, and consistency, ensuring every individual trains with purpose.
Established by Darryn Anthony and Joshua Capazorio, the gym was built on elite performance principles applied with equal care to professional athletes, general population members, and developing youth.
Joshua was widely regarded as one of South Africa’s leading strength and conditioning coaches, bringing experience across more than 20 sporting codes. His ability to assess individuals and apply precise, effective training strategies remains central to the Performance Purist methodology.
Darryn, a former Olympic weightlifter and World Championship medalist in powerlifting, brings over 25 years of experience as both an athlete and coach. His technical expertise continues to guide the daily execution and standards of training at Performance Purist.

A TRIBUTE TO JOSHUA CAPAZORIO (1989–2025)
Joshua was more than a coach, he was the foundation upon which Performance Purist was built.
Born in 1989, Joshua dedicated his life to the pursuit of excellence in strength, conditioning, and human performance. Recognised by Men’s Health as South Africa’s foremost strength and conditioning coach since 2014, his work spanned more than 20 sporting codes and included elite rugby players, Olympians, world champions, professional fighters, and endurance athletes competing at the highest level.
Joshua lived by the principle “Acta non verba”; actions, not words. It was not just a saying, but a standard he applied to his coaching, his athletes, and himself. He believed that progress was earned through consistent effort, discipline, and clarity of purpose.
What set Joshua apart was his ability to identify an individual’s strengths and limitations and apply precise, structured training to help them reach their full potential. This approach extended far beyond elite sport. He worked extensively with professionals, parents, and young athletes, helping tens of thousands improve their physical capacity, confidence, and long-term health.
Joshua passed in 2025, but his influence remains deeply embedded in Performance Purist. The training systems, coaching standards, and ethos of the gym continue to reflect his commitment to doing things properly, over time, with intent.
His legacy lives on through the people he coached, the coaches he mentored,
and the standards he set.
